In 2008, Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media released a major motion picture based upon C. S. Lewis' iconic children's book Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia. In conjunction with this film, Traveller's Tales and Disney Interactive Studios created an action-adventure video game set in the same universe. Caspian follows the plot of the movie very closely, as the Pevensie children find their way back into Narnia after 1,300 years have passed in the magical land. The children help protagonist Prince Caspian reclaim his rightful place as ruler by ousting his evil uncle, the King Miraz. The game features the talents of William Moseley (Peter), Skandar Keynes (Edmund), Anna Popplewell (Susan), and Georgie Henley (Lucy), among others, voicing their roles from the film. The game also includes music and clips from the film, which are featured as the player advances to or completes a mission. A bonus scene, in which the prince's tutor tells Caspian all about Old Narnia and the Pevensie's rule filmed exclusively for the game and not included in the movie also appears. Caspian follows a non-linear style of gameplay consisting of six levels, which each contain various missions and can be accessed via multiple paths, with the opportunity to unlock four more bonus levels. The players utilize stealth skills, puzzle-solving strategies, and combat elements as they guide the characters through missions and boss fights to help Prince Caspian. Players can choose which of the 20 playable characters they will control and can switch between characters or use multiple characters simultaneously to execute cooperative attacks. Each character possesses unique abilities and combat specialties that are required to overcome certain obstacles. Caspian is compatible with Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo DS. Additionally, the DS version became the first game to implement Disney's DGamer online chat service. DGamer uses the DS's Wi-Fi capabilities to connect to an online network where players can create online avatars, unlock collectible items, trade prizes, and chat with other users. For example, a player can transfer an item won playing Caspian to another DGamer if they so choose. However, the technology is limited to Disney games.
